GIS stands for geographic information system. When used by local governments, GIS is a computer technology that combines geographic data – which includes both natural and man-made features of a specific surface area – and other information such as street names, zones, property values and demographics to generate visual maps and reports.
WHO CAN SUBMIT BUILDING PLANS?
Any new building and any alteration that adds on to or changes the structure of an existing building must be approved by the City.
The City of Johannesburg has officially unveiled the General Valuation Roll 2023 (GVR2023) in terms of the Local Government: Municipal Property Rates Act (Act 6 of 2004), national legislation that governs the valuation of properties.
The City has published its fourth General Valuation Roll (GVR2023) since the promulgation of the Local Government: Municipal Property Rates Act, 2004 (the Rates Act). Property Owners have a limited period within which to examine the roll, and if required, to submit an objection to such valuation.
